A rare, vintage, thick walled, 8" tall and 6 inches across, crystal vase. Thick and heavy. Walls measure 1/4 inch. Weight is almost 6 pounds. Catches the light and picks up colors around it like magic! Excellent condition. No chips or cracks. All edges are smooth. Large diamond shapes all around mid section. Then above and below, are deep inward cuts. The gold sticker is still on the front of the vase, on top it reads, "Val St. Lambert", near bottom of sticker, "Cristal Belgium". Below is "Depose". St Acid etched on the bottom is, "Val Lambert". The "St" are etched just above where it should be. It is possibly an "S and a sideways "V". (24%) Lead Crystal makes this piece particularly iridescence and heavy. Lead crystal is made from glass that has been treated with lead oxide and hand or machine cut to make facets. This gives the glass a higher index of refraction and creates an attractive sparkling effect that is prized throughout the world. Val St. Lambert began manufacturing crystal in the early 1800's, becoming the epicenter of the Belgium crystal industry. Hundreds of years later, through depression and war, the factory is still making outstanding art glass. This piece is likely from the 1960's, when the factory had begun to resurface from the troubles of the earlier part of the century.
