An antique Elephant match striker which will second as a wonderful bronzed paperweight for it is quite heavy and flat on the back surface. The piece was cast in a heavy silver metal, seems to lightweight for spelter. A bronzed finished added. The Elephant's head, trunk and tusks are raised high as if he is bellowing. The grass beneath his feet continues beneath making for the rough texture for the wood match striker from days gone by.
The bronzed finish is polished where the piece was held when used, a bit lighter and brighter on the front, back and striker area, appropriate for age. Note the file or sanding marks on back worn smooth from touch.
The back has a flat plate covering a somewhat hollow center. There are no markings or hallmarks.
Size: From trunk to grass, 2-3/4". Width from ear to ear is 2".
Weight: Feels very heavy for its small size, weighs 6 oz.
Condition: Excellent! There are a couple pin sized spots on base where worn through the bronze finish to silver metal beneath.
