A Japanese porcelain lemon server or tea plate, hand painted with a unique Art Deco motif, atypical of the norm. The gold and black finger hold plate shows Mt. Fuji in the background. Gold bamboo stands proud while large white Water Lillie's float on golden water full of Koi fish. The border is fluted and trimmed with gold enamel moriage, so popular from days gone by. The finger-hold along side is gold gilt.
A perfect serving plate for passing wee pastries, cookies at tea time, or lemon slices, this porcelain piece could be used as a candy dish, for peanuts or bonbons, or a trinket dish in your favorite vanity area.
The back side does show a red hallmark of Mt. Fuji with waterways. The porcelain mark is similar to several of the Fukagawa hallmarks, but did not find this exact mark in my research. Made for export after the 1930's, the mark does read "Made in Japan".
