Antique Steel Beaded Miser Purse

A crocheted steel beaded Miser hand bag with beaded fringe on both ends. These fun little purses from days gone by have two rings and a narrow opening in the crocheted center. The silver-toned rings simply slide to one side or another to allow access to the sock-like pouch. The opening is rather slim allowing only a finger or two to reach for coins, couldn't grab to many at one time, reminding me of the term "pinching pennies".

The light tan stitching looks as though it is new with simple decor of dark steel beads in a diamond pattern on both pouches, front and back. The ends of the antique purse are squared off and are fringed with steel beads. Many of these hand bags have one rounded end, and the other squared.

These antique accessory's worn by both Men and Women date to the 1800's and were carried here and there through the 1920's. Though used by both sex's, there are not as many of these as compared to other antique beaded purses.

Size: 2" x 12-5/8"

Condition: Excellent except for one rust spot towards the inside and a single strand of yarn (could be pulled back through). Very clean, no spots or soiling, nor is it stretched out of shape. No loss of beads, it appears to never have been carried or worn over a sash and belt.
