Now this is the kind of cookbook I need, the Better Homes and Gardens 1989 New Junior Cook Book! Lots of pictures, and fun things to cook; it even makes me want to try some of the fun recipes, if they can promise me my dishes will turn out as good looking as all these pictures in the book! Funny thing, when I opened it to check the condition, flour came pouring out of the pages, so I know it's been used, but gently and lovingly.
Before you even get to the recipes, there is the "Getting Started" section, and her are just a few items they cover: Points to Remember...like Safety and the importance of handwashing, wiping up spills as you go and cleaning the kitchen when you are finished! The "Measuring Up" section covers liquids, dry ingredients, margarine or butter, shortening or peanut butter, and brown sugar. Finally, there's a section called "Words to Cook By," and it covers greasing pans, testing cakes for doneness, colanders, teaspoons and tablespoons, cooking till bubbly, simmering, slicing/chopping, and cracking an egg.
Page 12-13 has been wet at some time, and that's also where the flour came from , so they must have liked either the Chocolate French toast or Raisin Pancake squares recipes! Those 3-4 pages had to be torn apart so a bit rough at the bottom, but really not so bad either. It's just been used by kids! So many good recipes, and at the end, there's Nutrition Analysis pages that give Servings, Calories, Protein Grams, Carb Grams, Fat Grams, Sodium Milligrams, Potassium Milligrams and Cholesterol Milligrams.
Not convinced yet? Take a look at the fun pictures, and even the great cover! You won't be disappointed!
