Here is a very unique and unusual item, a vintage bakelite baby rattle. This lovely piece displays like a piece of art, it features five large bakelite rings in different colors, attached to a bar with rings on either end. The large bakelite rings measure 2 1/4" across, the bar measures 3" in length, and the two smaller rings attached to the bar are 1 1/2" across. The overall length of the rattle is 7 1/4". I don't believe the bar and two smaller attached rings are bakelite, however the five large colored rings are. This charming rattle dates to the 1920's and is in excellent vintage condition, with vivid colors and no damage. There are two tiny pinprick nicks in one of the small rings attached to the bar, hardly worth mentioning but I will anyway. There are no cracks and everything is very securely attached. A beautiful example with sculptural quality. We have owned this item for at least twenty years, and guarantee it to be authentic, original bakelite as described.
