James Lapham Carved Miniature Brant Decorative Decoy

James Lapham, of Dennisport, MA (Cape Cod) is best known for his carvings of miniature duck and goose decoys and song birds. He lived from 1909-1987 and was an active carver from about 1950-1976. His attention to detail, both for carvings and paint features is remarkable, and he ranks right up there with the very important carvers of the 20th century (Elmer Crowell, Russ Burr, etc). Here is a miniature Brant decoy. It is 4 ¾" high and approximately 4 3/4" from beak to tail; it sits on a round base 2 ¼" in diameter and the base is signed "James Lapham, Dennisport, MA" and the name of the species. This example is probably from the late 1960s/early 1970s. The Brant is in excellent, untouched condition. If you check my Ruby Lane Shop Listings, you will find several other Lapham carvings.
