Dark Blue Historical Staffordshire Plate: Moulin sur la Marne a Charenton from the French Series by Enoch Wood, c. 1825-30

A 9" Dark Blue Historical Staffordshire Plate, `Moulin sur la Marne a Charenton' from the French Series by Enoch Wood. The transfer shows a chateau with a river flowing through it (very much like Chenonceau). The border features grape vines with leaves and clusters of grapes that dangle into the scene. The plate dates c. 1825-30 and is from a series considered to have considerable American interest because many of the places pictured have some connection to the Marquis Lafayette. This plate is marked with a blue cartouche and a faintly impressed `Wood' mark (right through the cartouche which makes seeing it hard). Charenton is outside of Paris, at the point where the Seine and the Marne Rivers meet.

The plate is in very fine condition. The dark blue color is strong and there are no chips, cracks, lines, etc. The vertical line in the upper left is a slight tear in the transfer, a manufacturing flaw.
