A large (13.5" diameter) Buffalo Pottery Deldare Ware Charger from the "Ye Lion Inn" series, dated 1908. The scene on the hand-painted charger is titled "An Evening at Ye Lion Inn" and show 6 men in colonial garb sitting/standing around a table. The charger is signed "A. Roth" (center right edge) and carries the Buffalo Pottery, 1908, printed mark. The charger is in very fine condition or better. No chips, cracks, lines, restorations, etc. Strong color and nice decoration. 2 pin-head sized nicks on the edge (no visible from the front side of the platter) which may be manufacturing flaws, or come from a metal plate hanger. Neither is noticeable.
Buffalo Pottery was owned by the Larkin Soap Company of Buffalo, NY, during the early 20th Century. Deldare Ware was a special line, made between 1908 and 1911 and again in the early 1920s and used as premiums for the purchase of Larkin Soap products. It has become and important and highly collectible form of American Art Pottery.
