A double transfer dark blue Historical Staffordshire Cup Plate by Clews, identified in the Armans' book Anglo American Ceramic Cup Plates as either Palm Trees/Pagodas (Vol. II, No. 36, p. 13) or Palm Trees, Jungle Border Series (Vol. II, No. 37, p. 13) – I'm not sure which. Extremely dark cobalt blue color w/ gently scalloped edge. The Clews Crown mark is impressed deeply into the back. The plate is 3 ½" in diameter and except for a faint 1" hairline, noticeable on the back but not on the front side, it is in very fine condition: shiny glaze with no scratch marks, and rich color. Not an easy cup plate to find, for those attempting to assemble a comprehensive collection.
