"Perma Girl" Miniature Playing Cards, Maker Unknown, "Perma" Adv. (Tobacciana), c.1930s

Complete deck of miniature cards, maker unknown, advertising “Perma” smoking-related products, and featuring the “Perma Girl” on the backs of the cards and on the Joker. It appears from the cards that “Perma” was once a company that made a range of smoking-related products, including lighters, lighter fluid, pipe cleaners, etc. Today, there is a “Perma” brand of lighter fluid, which may have its roots in this company. In addition, as this listing is made, there is a “Perma” brand lighter for sale on the Internet, that the seller believes to be pre-WWII, and it is stamped “Made in London England” at the base. Other than these two facts, I have found nothing on the Internet relating to “Perma” brand smoking-related products, and I have been unable to learn anything whatsoever about the company. The cards themselves have a look and feel, including the paper and printing, consistent with manufacture in the 1930s, and so I have dated these cards to the date suggested for the advertised lighter.

There are 52 cards, plus the “Perma Girl” Joker noted. Each of the court cards has “Perma” printed across the center. The cards measure 42mm x 30mm. There is no box.

The cards are in very good condition. Because there is no box, they are lightly soiled throughout, and there is a crease to one card (separately pictured); however, these appear to be storage and handling issues, and it is doubtful the cards have been used much. In addition there is one card (separately pictured) whose back is lighter than the rest of the deck. I believe it was made that way, as the shape and front of the card are not affected, but I don’t know for sure.
