USPC "Stage #65" Playing Cards, c.1908
Superb set of "Stage #65" playing cards made by United States Playing Card Co. c.1908, the most beautiful of the "Stage #65" decks, in the original telescope box. There is a theatre star on each card, centered in half tone oval photos framed in gold, with an autograph beneath each oval; these ovals are bordered on each side vertically by four different floral arrangements, one for each suit. The backs are also half toned, and the entire deck has a wonderful "art nouveau" feeling to it. The deck is complete at 52 cards, plus a Joker (Marshall Wilder). The cards are wide, measuring 90mm by 64mm, with gold gilt around.
The cards are in pristine, "as new" condition, with almost all of the gold gilt intact. The box is another matter. The inner box that holds/protects the cards is in excellent condition; however, the outer (sleeve) box is missing its top and has separated at one of the sides, and what little remains is vulnerable to further deterioration.
