Double Deck "Erte" Playing Cards, Sobranie of London, Carta Mundi, c.1983

Mint set in the original packing box of the incredibly beautiful double deck of cards designed by Erte, printed by Carta Mundi, and published by Sobranie of London, c.1983. Each deck has its own black lacquered telescope box, with a jester on the front. These boxes in turn are housed in a larger black lacquered box along with a 163-page book called "The Art of Erte." The last picture of this listing shows the set in the packing box that is for sale here. The other pictures are from a set previously sold in this shop that was out of the packing box and could be photographed.

One of the decks has white backs and one has black backs, but the faces of both decks show the art work of Erte against a black background. There is original art work on all cards. The art work on the Aces is different, but the art work on the courts and pip cards is the same for each suit -- i.e., all 4 Kings the same, all 4 Queens the same, etc. All cards have Erte's signature. These are wide cards (89mm x 64mm), with gold gilt all around, and each deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers. The book also has gold gilt around.

The entire set of these cards for sale here -- all cards, the book and all boxes -- are mint and in the original packing box.

There are single decks of these cards – alone, without any book or boxes -- also for sale in this shop (T00002504).
