Two decks of cards made by Handa, from its "Danish Souvenir Series." One of them features a picture of the Thorvaldsen Museum on the backs, and it has the Handa courts and joker associated with Handa's "Luxus Salon No. 99" cards (see, Fournier, Playing Cards, Denmark 50). The other deck features a picture of St. Alban's Anglican Church in Copenhagen, also known simply as the "English Church," and it has the Handa courts and joker associated with what the World Web Playing Card Museum calls "No. 413" (see, Fournier, Playing Cards, Denmark 62). Each has a canceled U.S. tax stamp – the Thorvaldsen deck canceled in 1959, and the English Church deck in 1960 – and it is clear from the English descriptions on the back of each box that these decks were made for sale in the United States. Each deck is available separately for $25, and both are for sale for $50.
Each deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers. The Thorvaldsen Museum cards are slightly long bridge size, measuring 92mm x 58mm, while the English Church cards are slightly long wide size, measuring 91mm x 62mm. Each deck comes in the original box.
The cards are in excellent condition, "as new" or very nearly so. The boxes are in no better than good condition, relatively clean, but heavily taped at the bottom with some kind of typed cataloguing notations beneath the tape.
