Very attractive decanter, presumably made in Germany, featuring German playing cards on the sides – designs originally published by Dondorf as its "Baronesse" pattern, and thereafter published by ASS, usually under the name "Rococo." The seller to me represented that the decanter was made in the 19th century, but this is clearly incorrect. The top has a 10 of Clubs with the ASS logo. I do not interpret this to mean that ASS made or even approved the decanter; but the ASS cards upon which the piece is based were clearly made later than 1933, perhaps much later. That said, I think it is a nice item for those that are fond of German playing cards and of this very popular pattern.
The decanter stands approximately 9½" tall. The body has 2 sections, roughly cubic in shape (a little bit taller than wide) and roughly 3" square, that are aligned at an angle, giving a very different look to the piece. The top of the decanter is also roughly cubic, but measures approximately 1¾" to vertically and approximately 1½" horizontally. There is a cork, but I do not think that it is original to the piece, because when it is in the decanter, the top "wobbles" a bit. But I could be wrong, and the cork will travel with the piece.
The piece is in excellent condition. At the rim there is the very slightest nibble. I have tried to capture it in the final picture, but it is hard to see. It is very small, but it is there.
