Nintendo "Puritan Sportswear" Playing Cards, Bob Peak Designs, c.1960s

Superb deck of cards made by Nintendo for Kanegafuchi Spinning Co., Ltd., advertising its Puritan Sportswear brand and featuring the beautiful designs of legendary illustrator Bob Peak.

Hailed as the "father of the modern Hollywood movie poster," Peak's work included: ad and promotional work for the U.S. Postal Service, French Lines, Samsonite, Puritan Sportswear, 7-up, TWA, and Ford; story and cover art for most major "slicks," e.g. Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, and Time (over 40 covers); and 100+ movie posters, including West Side Story, Modesty Blaise, Camelot, Star Trek the Motion Picture, The Missouri Breaks, The Spy Who Loved Me, Superman, My Fair Lady, Apocalypse Now, Excaliber, Any Which Way But Loose, and Our Man Flint.

Peak contributed illustrations to the advertising for Puritan Sportswear clothes beginning in 1962 and continuing throughout the decade, and I have dated these cards to that decade. Please note that there are four Peak designs: 2 Jokers the same, 4 Kings the same, 4 Queens the same, and 4 Jacks the same.

The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers. The cards are slightly short and wide, measuring 87mm x 61mm. The come in the original Nintendo plastic box.

The cards are "as new." The box is "as new," except that it has a slight scratch/crack at one corner (separately pictured).
