Double Deck Piatnik “Anton Lehmden” Playing Cards, Edition Hilger, Anton Lehmden Designs, c.1981

Mint, sealed double deck of cards made by Piatnik c.1981, one of its Edition Hilger sets of cards. Piatnik's Edition Hilger cards feature work of artists associated with Galerie Ernst Hilger in Vienna. The cards for sale in this listing feature the wonderful designs of Anton Lehmden. The first picture in the listing is the actual set of cards for sale. The remaining pictures are from an open deck previously sold in this shop.

Wikipedia has a stub article about Lehmden:

"Anton Lehmden (born January 2, 1929 in Nitra, Slovakia) is an Austrian painter, draughtsman, and printmaker.

"Lehmden was a co-founder, together with Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner, Arik Brauer and Wolfgang Hutter, of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. He settled in Vienna after 1945 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

"In 1948 he was represented in the exhibitions of the Vienna Art-Club and has also been represented in many international exhibitions. He taught in Istanbul from 1962/63 and from 1971-97 was Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1966 he acquired the Renaissance castle Schloss Deutschkreutz (Burgenland), which he has since been restoring."

Each deck has 52 cards, plus 3 Jokers, 2 of which have the same design. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, and come in a hard plastic box that I do not believe is original to the cards.

As noted, the cards are in mint condition. The hard plastic box is in "as new" condition.
