Rare and wonderful De La Rue "Klik" bezique and rubicon bezique marker/coounter. The "Klik" markers – whist and bezique – were wonderfully innovative when introduced by De La Rue, in or about the late 1880s or early 1890s. The “Klik” has spring loaded brass tabs that fire out from the side of the piece by pressing small beads, to record the points as they are scored, and derives its name from the sound made when the tabs are released. The “Klik” here for sale was made to score both bezique and rubicon bezique, a bezique variant that came to prominence in the late 19th century. The brass tabs are set in beautiful walnut or mahogany wood, and the piece measures 5.7" by 2.9" (tabs in) and is .5" thick.
This "Klik" is in excellent used condition, and with all tabs in perfect working order. On the reverse side a label is faintly visible. The words that I can make out read: "The Klik" and then "Rubicon Bezique Marker" and then the De La Rue name and city. I believe that there is also a reference to patent information, but I am not certain of what it says. Altogether a wonderful piece.
