Waddington “Snipe -- Sporting Birds Series” Playing Cards, William Barribal Design (Backs), c.1930s

Excellent deck of cards made by Waddington c.1930s, one of its “Sporting Birds Series,” featuring a signed illustration by William Barribal, the famous British artist. Barribal designed backs for many Waddington decks in the 1920s and 1930s, in different series including this one, titled “Sporting Birds,” which portrayed various large birds, including the one here pictured, the “Snipe.”

The deck has 52 cards, plus a standard Waddington Joker. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 59mm, with gold gilt around. They are in the original box.

The cards are in excellent condition, very lightly used, with 85% of the gold gilt intact. The box is in no better than fair condition, held together in critical places with tape, with one side of the top missing and other wear and damage.
