USPC “Pennsylvania Railroad” Playing Cards, c.1930

Perfect set of stunning railroad cards, titled “Pennsylvania Railroad” at the bottom of the illustration on the backs, and made by United States Playing Card Co. c.1930 (USPC #M1977). This deck is one of 10 very similar decks shown in Bollhagen, made by USPC for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1926 and 1927, and apparently printed in those years and for a few years thereafter. Each of the decks features the same illustration of a locomotive. This particular deck is dubbed “Train Leaving City” by Bollhagen, and the illustration of the locomotive on the backs of the cards in this deck is set against a city skyline.

The deck has 52 cards, including a special Ace of Spades, plus a Joker, and 2 cards with scoring, one for auction bridge and one for contract bridge. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, with gold gilt around. There is no box, but the cards came to me in the original wrapper. The wrapper has been broken and the cards can be removed and inspected. The wrapper has the original tax stamp.

The cards are in mint condition, with gold gilt intact. They are beautifully made.
