I have called these “modernist” cards, because I do not know what else to call them.
A glamour/pin-up deck of very similar cards was made for “Next,” the U.K. clothing retailer (see, T00001802, this shop), and the World Web Playing Card Museum lists them as U.K. cards (WWPCM05918). However, the maker is unknown, and if forced to guess, I would speculate that the cards were made in Germany. The “Next” clothing chain came into prominence in the mid-1980s, and so I have dated these cards to that decade, but I am not at all sure of the date.
The cards are very nicely made, and feature an abstract design on the backs and very “modernist” designs on the faces, with 2 large indices on each card, one black and one gray, and nothing more. The upright indice for cards A-10 is at the bottom half of the card, and for J-K is on the top of the card. This is true whether the black indice is on top, or the gray one.
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 64mm, and there is no box. These cards differ slightly from the “Next” cards in that the red suits of this deck have red suit symbols and indices, while the “red” suits of the “Next” deck have black suit symbols and indices.
The cards are in “as new” condition.
