A deep rich blue colored glass bottle with PUNT BOTTOM and ROUGH PONTIL that is a reproduction of a 1770 JOHN GREENHOW WILLIAMSBURG VIRGINIA Bottle. This fantastic and beautiful bottle is a detailed replica of actual bottles made for the products (liquors and beverages) sold by JOHN GREENHOW in the mid to late 18th century in Virginia. The bottle was a faithful reproduction made by BLENKO as part of their WILLIAMSBURG REPRODUCTION SERIES Bottle has open pontil on bottom with concave punt as shown and asymmetric paneled sides with medallion showing merchant name as seen in the photographs. Stands about 8 ¼ inches high with coiled collar around neck and awesome texturing in the glass.
Blenko made the reproduction pieces during 1936 to 1966. Fragments of glass were sent from the Williamsburg Restoration project to Blenko to be studied. Blueprints were drawn up for each item to be reproduced in the line. Also seen on some blueprints is at least one drawing of a fragment that was used to design the piece. The reproductions are all mouth blown using Cherry molds and hand formed using the wooden paddles. Each piece has its individual charm and reflects the skill of the person that made that one particular piece.
