Black Forest Carved Wood and Ivory Figure of a Soldier
This wonderful soldier was carved from wood and ivory in the mid to late 19th century. This Austrian or German piece was made in the Black Forest region of Europe. The soldier is depicted holding his helmet in his hands with a smirk upon his face. There are two holes to the right of his pants, which might have once held something. The detailed carving, his hands, feet, eyes, and mustache, is obviously the result of a skilled artisan. A wonderful unique and realistic piece.
Condition: Excellent. Natural tight hairline to wood on man's back.
Measurements: Total of 6 3/4 in. high x 2 7/8 in. diameter. Figure alone is 5 3/4 in. high x 2 1/2 in. wide.
