An exquisite tortoise shell sewing casket, dating to the mid 19th century. This English piece is veneered in a very fine spotted tortoiseshell with the most desirable combination of colors: translucent, golden blonde and a deep, dark chocolate. The interior of the box is lined with blue satin and velvet and the rim is inlaid with ivory, all around. Clasp and release mechanism work without any problems. The cartouche to the top of the box is blank and was never engraved. What more could you want from a tortoiseshell casket?
Condition: Great condition. One tiny flea bite to the back side of the lid, measuring about 1/8 in. Rather unnoticeable (the chip is shallow and doesn't go all the way through the veneer). Otherwise, no damage or repairs.
Measurements: 5 3/4 in x 3 in x 1 in. high (14.5 cm x 7.5 cm x 2.5 cm)
