Tortoiseshell and Ivory Anglo Indian Box, Vizagapatam ca. 1860

Here is a handsome tortoiseshell and ivory box. It was made in the Indian town of Vizagapatam in the mid to late 19th century, while under Colonial British rule. The sandalwood frame is veneered in tortoiseshell and ivory plaques, filigree, and straps with beautiful ink work. It sits on four carved ivory "paws." A very nice, pristine piece.
