Offered here is a very finely painted portrait miniature of Napoleon Bonaparte, the grand French Emperor. It was handpainted on ivory by a very skilled artist and dates to late 19th century France. It rests in its original wood frame which contains the original hand made hanging ring. It is still sealed and may very well have a signature on the back of the painting. I have not opened the back to check; that will be left to the discretion of the owner. The portrait is of very fine quality and precise detail - look at the hair, face and outfit! It is very hard to find a portrait of Napoleon after his last major battle, the Battle of Waterloo (1815) which was unsuccessful and would rip Napoleon's power out of his hands. Shortly after, he was exiled to Saint Helena where he died six years later. He is seen here in his old age, just after the battle and years before his death. What a rare find!
Measurements: Frame is 6.5 in. diameter (16.25 cm). The miniature is a large 3 in. diameter (7.5 cm).
