Pierrot & Pierrete: a patinated bronze and ivory figure circa 1910, by the renowned Art Deco Sculptor Peter Tereszczuk (Austrian 1875-1963). The large Vienna bronze depicts an amorous couple in Pierrot costumes, dancing with legs kicked up in the air. Both have flowing clothing, ruffled collars, and cylindrical, pointed hats. The original ivory faces were hand carved by Tereszczuk himself, with much fine detail. This sculpture is highly characteristic of the movement started by the Vienna Secessionists. Peter Tereszczuk is one of the more well known of the Vienna Secessionists, developing the style in its infancy. The piece rests on its original marble tray, or vide poche. Signed "P. Tereszczuk" and stamped with an interlocking "T" and "U" for the Tereszczuk-Ullmann foundry.
Condition: Bronze figure and ivory faces are in excellent, original condition. The beautiful dark chocolate patina has been left untouched and unpolished, as it should be. A few small chips to the rim of the marble tray.
Measurements: Total 7 in high x 8.5 in diameter (18cm high x 22 cm diameter). Bronze alone is 6 1/4 in high (15.5 cm).
