Antique miniature French salesman sample or French soldier doll hat. Hello, welcome to my shop. I have collected antique dolls for many years. When I realized I had too many, I sold most of them, but kept the clothes and doll accessories that I had collected for use with future dolls. Such is the case with this wonderful antique hat. So well made , it is probably a salesman sample...or it is a French doll hat for the best French doll such as Bru. It is an exact copy of a regular size hat. Even in the inside band is leather. The gold-bullion thread is in fine condition. The center front of the hat is to appear as a symbol that has crossed guns or swords, however, it is crossed gold-bullion thread work. The inside of the hat is 11 inches circumference. As you can see, the beautiful lining is still that beautiful French blue. The top of the hat has 3 moth holes as shown. The top of the hat where the moth holes are appears to be navy well...the sides of the hat, black wool. The hat is 2 3/4 inches tall, a real hat, not a soft toy hat. I never displayed it, instead, it has been well kept in a doll trunk with some other doll size treasures that will eventually be offered in my shop. All original, even the buttons. The circumference of the doll's head the hat is shown on is 12 inches , wig included.....so, if I were to use this hat on a doll, it would be that size head, even the the hat sits a little loose, it sits well. No smells, wonderful condition, except for the moth holes on top and a little age dust....no matter how well something is stored, it will age slightly. The wonderful brim has a few age lines, however, it is not brittle..it is a hard brim covered in leather. This is truly one on my favorite treasures, but, then again, I say that with just about everything I own, LOL. The perfect hat, no matter what you do with it, you will adore it and will be very hard pressed to find another. I am on the computer throughout the day, so, if you have any questions, just ask.
