Vintage 800 Silver Repousse Putto & Roses Brooch
The design, similar to pieces by Peruzzi, together with the safety catch on the pin stem and simple “800” mark on the reverse, point to an Italian origin, mid-century or possibly earlier (older Italian silver jewelry, particularly that made for export, often had no mark on it other than “800” or “Sterling”).
An additional mark-- “CD”--appears on the front of the brooch, near the putto’s feet, and possibly is meant to indicate the artist’s initials.
Measuring 2 ¼” x 1 ¾”, the brooch is in excellent condition, with one irregularity on the bottom of the reverse which appears original to manufacture (see photo #4).
