Vintage homemade jester costume in flame orange and jade green leaf printed cotton features brass bells dangling from its zig-zag hem and sleeve ends. Though the loose, drop-waisted silhouette suggests a flapper era garment, the fabric colors and feedsack-style print suggest a circa date of 1930s. The stylized oak leaves are orange, soft white, and black---perfect Halloween colors—against the green background.
The "skirt" of the costume is attached to the short-sleeved bodice with tiny pleats all around, and the center of the scooped neckline is gathered as well. There is a three snap closure at the left side of the costume, which except for self-facing at the hem and sleeve ends is unlined. More roughly constructed than a proper dress would be (ie with visible stitching in places), this is still very nicely—and sturdily—made.
Measurements are: Bust 36", shoulders 14 ¾", waist 34", hips 42", bodice length (from top of shoulder seam to waist) 19 ½", and overall length (from top of shoulder seam to end of a hem "point") 38". Excellent condition.
