Late Edwardian Renaissance Revival Buckle w/Embroidered Silk Belt
The 1909 "New York Fashions" catalog from the National Cloak & Suit Co. shows belts quite similar to this one, including embroidered silk examples and one with a filigree buckle described as a "Renaissance buckle of Roman gilt".
Measuring 2.5" x 3", the white metal buckle has traces of a gold wash, primarily in front, and has finish wear to the elements that hook underneath it (invisible while worn) It has real "presence" despite its light weight, due to the layering of the stamped elements (which also heightens the ornate appearance).
The belt measures 30.5" from where it is attached to the buckle to where it is attached to the hook, and has light overall soiling but still presents beautifully. All in all, this lovely antique accessory is in very good condition.
