Vintage 60s Gold Silk Brocade Evening Coat Dianne Soames Couturiere S
Brocaded with metallic gold flowers, it has a swingy cut with dramatic portrait collar and cropped bell ¾ length sleeves with elegant curved elbow slit. Almost wide enough to be called an attached capelet, the collar drapes the shoulders on the side and in back, and closes over the large self-fabric button and loop that closes the coat just below the throat.
A second interior loop and button inside the waist helps the coat to lie properly, and there is a concealed slit pocket in the lining just below it. Fully lined in pale gold satin, the coat appears to have an interlining for warmth as well.
Though I have been unable to uncover anything about the designer, her description in the label ("Dianne Soames, Couturiere de la Cour, Toronto") translates literally as "Seamstress of the Court".
Measuring bust 36", shoulders 15", waist 38", hips free, sleeves 19.5" and length 39", the coat is in excellent condition, with one ¼" tea-colored mark to the lining (photo #8).
