Vintage 40s Wood Scotty or Scottie Dog Brooch Pin w/Glass Eye

Vintage 40s wood Scotty dog brooch with glass eye and carved whiskers, ears, legs, and collar reflects the huge popularity of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s pet Scottish Terrier, Fala, through the decade.

Fala—who travelled with the President, was served a bone off his tray each morning, and slept at the foot of his bed each night—got his nickname from a Scottish ancestor of FDR’s, “Murray the Outlaw of Falahill” and is memorialized by a statue at the FDR Memorial in Washington, D.C.

This charming jewelry memorial to Fala measures 2 ¼” across and 1” high, and is in good condition, with the yellow paint accents on his collar and bow worn, and the pinstem bent but quite secure under the c-clasp in back.
