Antique 1890s Late Victorian White Moire Satin Men's Waistcoat or Vest
Lined and backed in cotton, the waistcoat has a brass buckle on the martingale.
No manufacturer's labels, but as a museum deaccession the waistcoat retains its paper inventory tag dating it between 1885 and 1895. Measurements are: Chest 36", waist 32", and length 24".
Overall good condition, with the presentation of the front of the waistcoat near-excellent, especially given the vulnerable color and age of the white silk fabric. Minor issues are: a touch of discoloration to the second and fifth buttons (photo #3), two 1/16" tea-colored dots above the bottom buttonhole (photo #4), and two tea-colored stains to the lining (both less than ½"). Of more concern is the waterstaining to the cotton back (photo #7), which a professional cleaning has lightened but not been able to remove completely.
