Vintage late 40s Towncraft Deluxe jacquarded rayon satin wide tie features a stylized figural print in gold, white, and black on a brown ground of what appear to be dive-bombing birds trailing ribbons of smoke as they pursue their missions, accompanied (and no doubt fortified) by a cross. My hunch is that the design alludes to the hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers", which was popularized during WWII when Winston Churchill chose it for a 1941 church service during a treaty-signing with Franklin Roosevelt aboard the battleship Prince of Wales.
Label reads "Resilient Construction, Towncraft Deluxe Cravat, Fabric Loomed in America", with the design name ("French Edge") worked into the print on the reverse of the large blade. Measuring 52" long and 4" across the blade, the tie is in near-excellent condition, with one small nick to the reverse of the large blade (photo #6).
