Vintage 1970s black glazed leather Mary Jane-style platform shoes from Bruno Magli feature a rounded toe, chunky 3 ¼" heel and thick strap with matching buckle. The platforms are 7/8" thick.
Lined in black and white polka dotted fabric that enhances their visual punch, the shoes are embossed in (worn) silver lettering "Bruno Magli, Made in Italy".
The leather soles are stamped "Vero Cuoio" and size 37 ½, the European equivalent of a US 7.5. Exact measurements are 9.5" from toe to heel inside the shoe and just under 3" across the tread. Very good condition, with minor scuffs; the most visible is a scratch on the right toe (see photo #9).
Founded in the mid-1930s in Italy, Bruno Magli remained a family owned company through 2001, and, according to Jonathan Walford, author of "Shoes A-Z: Designers, Brands, Manufacturers & Retailers", were launched from relative obscurity by the "Made in Italy" craze of the 1950s.
