Vintage 1940s amber bakelite hand pin or brooch evokes Victorian hand jewelry with its curving, elongated fingers, though the long nails tipping them place the piece clearly in the mid-twentieth century. A frilly, carved cuff sits at the "wrist".
Riveted silvertone pinstem has a safety clasp. A slanting cylinder has been drilled beneath the base of the fingers; I am uncertain why, but guess that the brooch is meant to be akin to a Victorian tussie mussie, with the slot there to accommodate the stem of a bud or posy.
Measuring 3" across by 1 1/8" high, the brooch has been Simichrome-tested and is in excellent condition.
