Exquisite mid-1930s Deco flower basket dress clip sparkling with a mix of clear and emerald "fruit salad" rhinestones features the kind of workmanship one would expect to see in fine jewelry.

The basket is formed of pavé-set clear chatons accented by three channel-set baguettes, and nestling among its diamante "leaves" are a trio of faux emerald fruit salad stones in the shape of flowers. The rhodium-plated back of the clip has a small open section behind each "flower" which allows the light to glow through, and each "flower" is topped by a tiny, bezel set chaton, adding to the dimensionality of the clip as well as to the number of expert stone-setting techniques used in its production.

Costume jewelry using molded stones and imitating the mix of diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires in Cartier's late 1920s "Fruit Salad" jewelry was introduced by Alfred Phillipe of Trifari in the mid-1930s and quickly became all the rage. Though the clip being offered here is unsigned, its beautiful construction is a pointed reminder that those who made costume jewelry in the early twentieth-century typically had backgrounds as fine jewelers.

Measuring 7/8" high by 1" across at the widest point, this clip is in excellent condition.
