Vintage 1940s gold-washed sterling screw-back earrings feature white-on-black hardstone (likely agate) cameos of two different men's faces in profile. The profiles appear to be Medieval or Renaissance figures, rather than the more-typically seen centurions.
The cameos are set in twist frames identical in design to the ones used in the late 19th and early 20th century, and the backs of the posts—like the cameo's faces!—are marked differently: One is stamped "120-12KT Gold Filled" and the other "Sterling + 1/20-14K". Though I'm uncertain which is original and which the replacement, my guess is that 1/20th 12K goldfilled is the correct hallmark to describe these unusual earrings.
Measuring ½" across by just under ¾" high, they are in very good condition, with some patina to the metal finish which enhances their antique-look charm.
