Vintage 1940s envelope fabric clutch in an oversized silhouette is fashioned of a gorgeous upholstery brocade featuring a sunflower pattern.
The petals of the sunflowers—in various stages of blossoming—are either sepia, pink, and cream or gold with shades of blue, and the ground of the purse is a dot-jacquarded green-gold satin.
The flap of the clutch—which has a small tuck on either end to shape it—closes with a brass snap. The purse is lined in pristine cream satin charmeuse, with one zip and four open, layered sidewall pockets on one side and a single large, open sidewall pocket on the other.
No labels; a museum inventory tag dates the purse to between 1940 and 1949. Measuring 18" long by 10" high, this sumptuous textile purse is in very good condition, with two reddish (lipstick?) marks and a faint ¼" waterstain on the front (photo #8).
