Antique c.1905 Girl’s White Doeskin Dress Shoes 11.5

Lovely girl's dress shoes from the early 1900s are fashioned of white doeskin uppers with leather soles and pegged wooden heels. Pretty cream silk bows accented with pearl and silvertone metal ornaments sit on the straps, which button closed.

The quarters are lined in white leather, and the sockliners are doeskin as well, with the toes fabric lined. The top edges of the shoes and the edges of the straps are piped in what appears to be a cream canvas or duck.

No manufacturer's mark, but the shoes are stamped "11 ½" on the soles. Exact measurements are 7 ½" from toe to heel inside the shoe and 2 1/3" across the widest part of the sole. According to Jonathan Walford, author of "The Seductive Shoe; Four Centuries of Fashion Footwear", the construction and sizing of the shoe point to American, specifically Bostonian, manufacture around the turn of the 20th century.

The shoes are in excellent, clean condition, with a few minor abrasions on the heel of the left shoe and fraying to the silk of the bow.

Many thanks to Jonathan and to Melanie of Stella Rose Vintage for their assistance with dating these shoes.
