This 12 ½ inch tall doll, circa the early 20th century, was manufactured by Steinbacher Porzellanfabrik. The back of the bisque head is incised, “500.//G.H.//6/0.” The initials reflect the owner of the factory, Gustav Heubach. Seldom are these dolls ever found. In fact, the only other one I have seen surfaced in the early 1990s. This doll has been in a private collection for many years. The doll has deep modeling with blue painted intaglio eyes and a closed somewhat pouty mouth. She retains her original mohair wig in the original set. The composition and wood straight wrist body is also original to the doll and has the original finish. There is some slight wear to the paint on the body and the stringing is slightly loose. The head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Her white cotton underclothing is definitely original to the doll and her lace trimmed white cotton batiste dress may be also. The shoes are original. If you collect rare and unusual German and French character dolls, this doll is a must.
