Chinese Cloth Boy in Original Costume
This 10 inch tall doll, circa the late 19th or early 20th century, is cloth with an oil painted coating over the shoulder head and hands. The body itself is cotton fabric jointed at the shoulders and hips. The little guy has painted facial features including an open/closed mouth with two painted upper teeth. His hat is attached to the head with a small amount of human hair at the side. He wears his original Chinese costume minus one shoe. Jean Grout has written about these little dolls and compared them to the cloth Martha Chase dolls. She calls this type doll a "Five Finger Ching." The all original clothing is in good condition with some fading of the green fabric. This is a great little doll with loads of personality that would fit beautifully and add a little zing to any cloth doll collection.
