Unique Early Horsman Composition Dutch Girl Doll
This 12 inch tall early composition doll, created by the firm of E.I. Horsman & Co., is quite unusual. She is dressed in, what I believe, is her original Dutch costume. Her molded hair has been painted yellow to simulate a Dutch bob hairstyle. This is original to the doll and not painted on her later. The shoulder head, arms, and legs are composition. The body is hard stuffed cloth with a non-working crier. The back of her shoulder plate is marked in raised lettering, E.I. H. C. INC. Her clothing is created from felt and is in excellent clean condition. She has painted blue eyes and a closed mouth. There is slight paint chipping and crazing to the composition but definitely not anything distracting. Her head is all original with no repaint. I believe that someone,in the distant past, has possibly touched up the paint on the legs and arms where there has been some cracking and crazing. I believe my photos show this but it is subtle and a good paint color match. I purchased her because I found her hair decoration and costume so interesting. I cannot locate any additional information on this doll in any of the sources that I have on composition dolls. I do love a mystery and hope that one of our customers also finds this doll unique and interesting.
