Simon & Halbig German Bisque Head Fashion Doll for the French Market

This 15 inch tall doll, circa the late 1800s, was created by the German firm of Simon & Halbig for the French market in competition with the French Fashion Poupee Peau dolls of the time. This doll has beautiful blue glass paperweight eyes and a closed mouth. She has a solid dome head and wears her original blonde mohair wig. The doll has a swivel neck and bisque shoulder plate. The body is gusseted white kid leather. The head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The body is in good condition with no leaks but some repairs to the kid. The elegant lady wears white cotton lace trimmed underclothing and a two piece gown adorned with antique lace. I believe the gown is created a newer confection created from antique fabrics. The doll also wears socks and satin slippers. This doll is so beautiful with wonderful pale bisque. She certainly deserves a place of honor next to her French fashion contemporaries.
