Early German Belton Type Bisque Head Doll
This 17 inch tall Belton type bisque shoulder head doll, circa the 1870-80s, has a gusseted kid leather body. She has a closed mouth and beautiful brown glass paper weight eyes. Her wig is brunette human hair. I love the pale bisque of these early solid dome head German dolls. This doll wears an antique hand sewn cotton print dress and a lace trimmed cotton petticoat. The head is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is an inherent firing flaw at the back of the shoulder plate. I have photographed this area. After careful examination with a black light, I can see no actual break but only the firing flaw that leads to a very faint line. The body is in good sturdy condition with leather repair at each knee gusset. This doll is a particularly beautiful early example with the palest of bisque and a slightly turned head.
