This 16 inch tall doll, circa the early 1850s, was created by the Kestner & Company Porcelain Factory in Germany. The doll has a 4 ¼ inch tall china shoulder head with a black painted hair Kinderkopf hairstyle. There are individual brushstrokes curls on the sides and forehead of the hair. The head is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a very slight spot of roughness to the tip of the nose that is about the size of a pin head. The cloth body with leather arms is quite appropriate but is a later replacement. The doll wears antique cotton pantaloons and a white cotton baby dress that would have been typical for these most rare Kinderkopf china children.
