This 20 inch tall doll, circa the late 19th century or early 20th century, has a bisque socket head and a composition ball jointed body. The doll was manufactured by the German firm of J.D. Kestner and is the beginning of their character doll series. She has brown glass sleep eyes and an open mouth. There are no teeth in the mouth. I cannot tell if this doll ever had teeth as she does still retain the original red paper liner for the open mouth. The head is incised, "Made in //G. Germany. 11.//143." It is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a small rub on the right cheek. The body retains the original red "Germany" stamp but otherwise has been repainted. It appears that some of the fingers have also been repaired. I love this mold and know that this will be a darling doll when she receives a wig and costume from her new owner.
