This 12 ½ inch tall doll, circa the 1860s, has a papier mache shoulder head with painted facial features and a covered wagon hairstyle. She has a white leather body with the original red paper bands on the arms and legs. The lower arms are legs are wood with some paint wear. I believe that the right foot might be a later replacement but is expertly done so it is difficult to tell for sure. The papier mache head is in good condition with no repaint. There are some of the typical cracks in the shoulder plate. The leather body is sturdy with one area on the upper right arm that shows an old glue repair/reinforcement. The little miss wears an antique cotton print dress and antique white cotton underclothing. This is a lovely example of an early doll.
