This 18 inch tall doll, circa the 1880s, has the early square fat cheek face with the molded bisque square type teeth in her open mouth that are characteristic of the Kestner dolls. This doll has blue glass eyes. At one time, she had sleep eyes but they have been set at a later time. It appears that the mechanism is still there if someone wanted to have the eyes changed back. The shoulder head doll retains her original kid leather body with bisque hands. She also has her original plaster pate and somewhat spare original brunette mohair wig. The head is incised with the number 7 and "Germany" is incised but hidden under the top of the leather body. The head is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The body is also in good sturdy condition with a couple of small repairs at the two of the gussets. The right bisque hand is missing the thumb. The costume is just fabulous and probably original. Little Miss Kestner wears an antique red dress with black velvet trim. She also has a matching hat. Her underclothing is antique white cotton that has age discoloration. She wears replaced shoes and socks. The red dress has faded slightly as it is no longer an exact match for the hat. I always love to find these dolls with their original charm rather than having been dubiously "refurbished" with new wigs and clothing.
